Run.It Success Study - Bodum
With stores located throughout Europe and Japan, Bodum launched their flagship US store in New York City on September of 2001. The concept of these stores stretches outside of your typical retail experience, offering a retail space whose ultra modern appearance matches that of Bodum's unique design concepts and elegant lines of household products.
Challenge:
Implement a solution in less than 6 weeks, without an MIS department, with a scarce budget to link all inventory and customer data from the retail stores to the corporate head office in Wisconsin and eventually Euro headquarters. The solution infrastructure must be easily expandable and not require routine maintenance on the client's side. These stylish stores required equally stylish and reliable retail hardware.
Solution:
Transition current software based system to a real time platform (RUNIT RT), convert Bodum's existing (dial-up) credit card system to process transactions over virtual leased line with a centralized back office program called Net Audit, and transition the front end POS hardware to an IBM Platform, using the SUREPOS 600 retail terminals. By implementing real time technology, the software does not rely on the processor speed or memory of local machines, only on the speed of the Internet, thereby eliminating future upgrade costs on hardware. The total cost of ownership for the entire system will be lower in both the short and the long term, and implementation will be faster using the Real Time system.
NEW SOFTWARE
For the past eighteen months Bodum has used the classic RUNIT Software Suite for the point of sale interface, for merchandising, controlling inventory and increasing business using the CRM tools. As Bodum expanded to multiple locations, they transitioned from Run IT classic LAN software system to RUN IT Real Time software system that uses the Internet as a form of connectivity. RUNIT technicians configured Bodum's software and inventory data on the RUNIT application server in less than 24 hours.
HOSTED APPLICATION
Clients using Run IT Real Time need only a DSL connection at the store level to access and use the Run IT solution. This is an important feature for clients looking to expand their infrastructure but cannot commit to the up front capital investments of purchasing their own hardware. Software maintenance is no longer the client's concern with a Real Time solution, therefore does not require IT staff to maintain the retail store infrastructure. The application servers house the software and databases for the client and are owned and maintained by RUNIT SYSTEMS located in a professionally run, fully encrypted and redundant data center.
IMPROVED POS
IBM terminals are retailed hardened, insuring their success in the most demanding retail conditions and the IBM SURE POS 600 is a sleek design in stylish black, flat panel touch screen monitor that requires a minimal footprint. A comprehensive onsite warrantee backs all IBM hardware, therefore the client does not require IT staff to maintain the POS equipment.
RESULTS
Implemented hardware and software for three POS, in under 6 weeks, under budget. Bodum now has the infrastructure in place to expand their multi-site business by properly merchandising each store and accessing the data in real time from any computer. RUNIT software in real time will enable Bodum's staff to view and control data remotely, in real time from virtually any computer in the world and source RUNIT and IBM as their virtual IT staff.
